Just when product developers thought they had gained an understanding of consumers’ expectations of clean label — simple ingredients, nothing artificial and minimal processing — plant-based foods started becoming more popular.

Removing a synthetic component, which likely would reduce performance such as shelf life, and replacing synthetic ingredients with natural ingredients typically results in a higher raw material cost.”
